- Friday September 8: Men’s semi-finals day
18:00: There is some very high-quality doubles being played on Arthur Ashe, as you might expect in the final.
Lopez and Lopez had taken the first break of the match in game seven but immediately lost their own serve back.
And the Romanian-Dutch team of Rojer and Tecau converted the first of two set points on the Lopez-Lopez serve to seal the first set 6-4 with two consecutive breaks. Sharp, opportunistic work.
17:10: Some tennis at last! The men’s doubles finalists are wandering out onto Arthur Ashe to play the first final of the weekend.
Jean-Julien Rojer of the Netherlands and Horia Tecau of Romanian will be taking on the Spanish pair of Feliciano Lopez and Marc Lopez for the title won last year by Britain’s own Jamie Murray.
16:00: There’s only an hour to go until the men’s doubles final on Arthur Ashes as the clock has just struck 11am in New York.
But 10 years ago on this day, it was the women who were at the centre of attention.
Justin Henin had been in sparkling form ahead of Flushing Meadows, winning the French Open and reaching the semi-final of Wimbledon.
Despite being the No 1 seed, the Belgian had been handed a testing draw, having to beat Serena Williams in the quarter-finals and sister Venus in the semis.
On September 8 2007, she came up against Svetlana Kuznetsova in the final and produced one of her best performances to sweep the Russian aside 6-1, 6-3.
It was her seventh and would be her last Grand Slam title but when you look at her list of scalps in that second week, it was probably her most impressive.
